Beach vacations can change pretty dramatically as you get older. When you’re in your twenties you tend to want an active nightlife and a place to lounge in the sun where you can order drinks. As you get older, though, an ideal beach vacation tends to involve calmer activities and a chance to get some rest and relaxation. If this sounds like what you want your next vacation to look like you might want to consider Bald Head Island in North Carolina.

Transportation

Bald Head Island isn’t accessible by car nor are cars allowed on the island. You need to take a ferry or private boat to get there and then either walk, bike or use an electric golf cart to get around. This means you don’t have to worry about traffic or car alarms going off for the duration of your stay.

Lodging

You have quite a few options for lodging. You could stay at a hotel, but the rentals on Bald Head Island are pretty impressive. Not only are there a variety of different types of rentals to choose from, but there are many different kinds of homes available. There are beachfront homes with fantastic views of the ocean and private beach access and small cottages that sit along the river. Whatever kind of accommodations you’re looking for you’re probably going to find it.

Activities

There are several different activities available. You can rent bikes, canoes, kayaks, paddleboards, and kiteboards. You can also visit one of the island’s full-service marinas and enjoy fishing, crabbing, sailing, and even sailing classes. Or you can enjoy an 18-hole championship golf course that features ocean views, lagoons, and a maritime forest.
